Parano's late equalizer earns San Antonio FC draw at Louisville City

Cristian Parano’s late curled finish lifted San Antonio FC to a 1-1 draw with Louisville City FC at Lynn Family Stadium and sent the visitors home with a point from one of the USL Championship’s toughest road venues. A crowd of 12,358 watched Mukwelle Akale put Louisville in front early before Parano answered late to keep San Antonio from leaving empty-handed.

Louisville’s opener came first and briefly put San Antonio on the back foot, but the visitors stayed compact long enough to find their moment. Parano’s equalizer, a composed curler after the hosts had controlled the emotional start, changed the tone of the match and preserved a result that felt earned through patience as much as finishing. In a game defined by a few decisive touches, San Antonio made sure the last one belonged to it.

The draw carried extra weight because both clubs were deep into the postseason picture. San Antonio entered with an 8-3-7 record, while Louisville remained one of the league’s reference points under interim coach Simon Bird. Louisville had already become the first team to reach 200 regular-season wins in USL Championship history in early April, a mark that underscored the size of the challenge San Antonio faced in Kentucky.

The result also fit the history between the clubs. San Antonio beat Louisville 3-1 in the 2022 USL Championship Final at Toyota Field to win the title, and this meeting added another chapter to a matchup that tends to carry more edge than an ordinary regular-season fixture. Saturday night’s setting matched that backdrop, with Louisville’s home crowd pushing the hosts and San Antonio answering with discipline until Parano found the opening.

Parano’s finish added another reminder of why San Antonio brought him back for a third stint in December 2025. In that signing note, USL said the Argentine attacking midfielder had already produced 14 goals and 13 assists in 71 USL Championship appearances for the club. He had also delivered a winning goal in a 1-0 San Antonio victory at Brooklyn FC on July 26, and this late equalizer showed the same instinct for timing that has made him one of the club’s most reliable finishers when a match is tightest.
