Populous to design inaugural stadium for pro flag football league

Populous was chosen to design the first purpose-built stadium for TMRW Sports’ upcoming professional flag football league, a modular venue intended to put spectators close to the action and give the sport a permanent home. The project was described as the inaugural stadium for pro flag football, built to showcase women’s and men’s athletes and the sport’s fast, high-scoring pace.

TMRW Sports said the venue would be modular, and the company had already begun looking for a host city for the league’s first home. Transwestern’s Sports & Entertainment Group was leading that search, while earlier concept renderings showed how an NFL flag football venue could be adapted into a flexible footprint. The design points to a league trying to move quickly from announcement to a working venue that can support live crowds, media production and a launch schedule.

The stadium plan followed TMRW Sports’ March 30 partnership with the National Football League to develop and operate a professional flag football league for women and men. The timing lines up with the buildup to the 2028 Los Angeles Games, where flag football will make its Olympic debut. The Olympic qualification system for the sport was confirmed on Feb. 1, 2026, giving the game a formal international pathway as its professional side takes shape.

Flag football already has a sizable youth base behind it. NFL Flag says it serves athletes ages 4 to 17 in all 50 states, with more than 2,000 leagues and more than 830,000 youth athletes in the United States. That reach gives the new league something many startup sports do not have: a broad participation pipeline that can feed interest into a premium professional product.

Populous brings a deep venue portfolio to the assignment, and TMRW Sports is betting that a specialized stadium can help define how professional flag football is presented. The venue is meant to work for the people in the stands and the audience watching on screens, turning a borrowed-field sport into one with a signature stage.
