Local officials linked the jump in event status to positive player feedback and presentations made to the European footgolf federation in 2022 and 2023, a progression that helped move Ptuj up the ladder.

FootGolf Slovenia also added a doubles twist to the product, with 18 pairs competing in a shortened 12-hole format in the 2025 and 2026 cycle. That kind of side event broadens the weekend without diluting the main draw, and it is exactly why Ptuj keeps getting attention: the tournament quality is high enough for FIFG, and the destination is built to turn that quality into repeat visits.
