Racquetball confirmed for Lima 2027 Pan American Games program

Racquetball has been confirmed for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games program, with the sport set for July 23-28 inside a 36-sport event that runs from July 16 to August 1, 2027. Panam Sports confirmed the full program and the official schedule, giving the sport a fixed place on one of the hemisphere’s biggest stages.

That matters because schedule certainty is currency in racquetball. National federations can now build a real four-year plan around Lima, not a hope-and-wait exercise. Coaches can map out training blocks, athletes can target peak cycles, and administrators can use the confirmed program when they sit down with sponsors, ministries, and Olympic committees to ask for backing. In a sport that depends heavily on strong regional bases, being on the Pan Am roster is leverage.

Peru has the clearest immediate upside as host nation, with Lima set to put the sport in front of a home crowd again after the city hosted the Games in 2019. Canada and the United States also stand out as programs that can use the confirmation to sell continuity and results, with Pan American history already giving their federations a ready-made case for investment. For smaller programs across the Americas, the message is simpler: there is now a defined target worth funding, not a moving line.

The confirmation also closes a round of speculation that had circulated online about whether racquetball would make the cut. Panam Sports and the International Racquetball Federation made the inclusion official, and Panam Sports’ broader Lima 2027 program now includes bowling alongside racquetball.

Racquetball’s Pan Am roots run deep enough to make this more than a one-off entry. The Pan American Racquetball Confederation says the sport was first discussed at the Tournament of the Americas in 1985 in San Jose, Costa Rica, then formalized at the IRF World Championships in Orlando, Florida, with Keith Calkins of the United States serving as interim president. The Pan American Games have also already featured racquetball in Toronto in 2015 and Lima in 2019.

That history is part of the pitch now. The confirmation gives elite players a legitimate runway, junior programs a concrete goal, and federations a stronger argument that racquetball still belongs on the continental sports map.
