Racquetball spotlights senior sports at Capital City Senior Games

Racquetball helped define the 17th annual Capital City Senior Games, a 25-activity slate for athletes 50 and older that ran from Feb. 25 to March 17, 2026. The City of Tallahassee used the sport in a reel that described racquetball as a fast-paced challenge built on reflexes, coordination and shot-making, and said athletes took on the challenge and enjoyed friendly matches.

That tone fit a senior sports program built around access as much as competition. Registration opened Jan. 1, the local games were sanctioned by the Florida Sports Foundation, and the Capital City Senior Games served as a qualifier for the Florida Senior Games State Championships. The schedule also gave the event a ceremonial spine, with a Torch Run and Fun Walk set for Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. at Cascades Park and a Celebration of Athletes set for March 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Senior Center.

The city’s racquetball push showed why the sport keeps showing up in senior competition. It is a game where movement, timing and quick hands still matter, which makes it attractive for players who want a demanding court sport without relying only on raw power. For older athletes, that means the value of racquetball often comes from staying sharp, choosing shots wisely and keeping a match within reach through positioning and reaction time.

A City of Tallahassee Instagram reel posted March 8 said registration was still open for several Senior Games sports and listed racquetball tournament dates as Oct. 7-10. The message gave the event a practical edge, turning the post into more than a promotion and pointing athletes toward the broader senior-games calendar even after the spring portion of the program had been set.

Florida Senior Games keeps racquetball in its statewide lineup, which gives Tallahassee’s local meet a clear pathway beyond recreation. The Capital City Senior Games offered older players a place to compete, reconnect and keep a familiar sport in their routine, and racquetball sat near the center of that effort.
