Rend Lake spotlights newcomers as Warriors aim to stay nationally ranked

Rend Lake College used its Aug. 6 newcomer feature to make the next step clear: the Warriors are not rebuilding, they are trying to reload around a team that finished 22-9 and was ranked No. 14 nationally for 2025-26. That backdrop gives the incoming class real weight at The Lake in Ina, Illinois, because every new piece has to help preserve a program that already proved it belongs in the NJCAA conversation.

The immediate minutes should go first to the newcomers who can solve the most obvious roster needs. Rend Lake averaged 79.6 points per game, 40.2 rebounds and 16.1 assists last season, so the quickest way for an addition to matter is to add efficient scoring without slowing the offense, finish possessions on the glass and make the extra pass work. A guard who can create shots late in the clock, a forward who can win rebounds in traffic and a wing who can defend the top perimeter threats are the three additions most likely to jump into the rotation early.

That is the real pressure point for a program that has already shown it can win at a high level. Rend Lake had an eight-game winning streak on Feb. 4, the longest at the school since the 2014 season, then stretched that run to 12 straight by Feb. 18 after not losing since Jan. 3 against DACC. The Warriors later finished the year ranked as high as No. 12 before ending the season at 22-9, 11-3 in conference play and 12-5 at home.

The postseason miss made the margin even sharper. Rend Lake’s March season-ending note said the Warriors did not receive an at-large bid for the tournament, a reminder that strong regular-season numbers alone do not guarantee a bracket spot. That puts added importance on the newcomers being ready fast, especially if they can change the team’s identity in the half court or give the Warriors more physicality on the defensive end.

Rend Lake’s numbers already point to a team with a solid base: production, home-court wins and a top-15 national profile. The newcomers now have to supply the extra scoring, size and toughness that can turn that foundation into another ranked season and a stronger postseason case.
