Rheinos Bonn opens quadball tryouts, invites newcomers for late-summer sessions

Rheinos Bonn is opening late-summer quadball tryouts at Arena Courts 5 through 8, with an August 24 session for everyone and additional sessions listed from August 31 through September 5, 2026. The club’s post makes the pitch plain: “Try a new team sport: Quadball,” and invites people to send a direct message with questions while registration remains open.

The schedule is built to catch different kinds of players. Rheinos Bonn lists sessions from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. and from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., a setup that can fit students, workers and athletes who are looking for an off-season or crossover sport. The club’s messaging is aimed at both first-timers and returners. Rheinos Bonn says on its Instagram bio that the team is open to all genders and skill levels, with regular training on Mondays and Thursdays from 18:30 to 20:30. That approach matches the recruiting tone of the tryout post, which frames quadball as an easy entry point for anyone curious about the sport rather than as a closed-door selection event.

Rheinos Bonn has been playing quadball in Bonn since 2015 and describes the game as a mixed-gender, full-contact sport that combines rugby, handball and dodgeball. On its competition page, the club says it competes in the German championship, the European Quadball Cup and the NRW league, with members represented on the German national team and development squad. The recruitment drive therefore feeds directly into a program that already plays at several levels.

The club’s late-summer push also fits the broader identity of quadball itself. In July 2022, the International Quadball Association announced the worldwide adoption of the Quadball name alongside US Quadball and Major League Quadball, a move intended to distance the sport from Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. That inclusive branding is reflected in Rheinos Bonn’s Women/FINTA-only open practice and in the club’s open-to-all skill-level messaging.

Rheinos Bonn’s competitive history adds weight to the tryout push. The Deutscher Quadballbund said in 2017 that Rheinos Bonn won the first German quidditch league, marking the club as one of the sport’s early standard-bearers in Germany. Now it is using a newcomer-friendly late-summer window to widen the pool before the season settles into its regular training rhythm.
