The club framed the move with a simple line, “The best things come in threes,” and the message matched the roster strategy: keep the spine intact and reduce the churn that often reshapes contenders in the USL Championship.

Vegas remains the center of that plan. He gave Rhode Island FC 2,790 minutes in 2026, a single-season club record, while finishing with eight clean sheets and 72 saves, and he reached 10,000 club minutes on May 2, 2026. For a team that leans on its captain to organize the back line, those numbers point to more than durability. Vegas stabilizes the first phase of possession, commands the penalty area and gives Rhode Island FC a reliable voice behind the defense, which matters when a club is trying to turn pressure into control over a long league season.

Shapiro-Thompson gives the midfield the same kind of continuity. Rhode Island FC had already re-signed him for the 2025 campaign in a January 2, 2025 roster move that also brought back Isaac Angking and Kevin Vang after the club’s appearance in the 2024 USL Championship title game. Bringing Shapiro-Thompson back again extends a run of trust in a player who helps connect the lines, keeps the ball moving through central areas and supports the team’s structure when opponents try to press through midfield.

Bacharach’s re-signing matters in a different way.
