Rowdies bring back Conner Antley on loan from D.C. United

The Rowdies brought back Conner Antley on loan from D.C. United on Aug. 7, adding a veteran defender who already logged 102 appearances across all competitions in Tampa Bay. This is not a clean-slate signing or a lottery-ticket loan. It is a reunion with a player who already knows the club, the locker room, the expectations and the pace Tampa Bay wants to play.

D.C. United said the loan runs through the end of the 2026 MLS season, which makes the move look designed for immediate help rather than a long runway. That matters for a Rowdies side that needed defensive stability more than another development project. A player with Antley’s history can organize a back line faster, communicate in familiar terms and cut down the adjustment period that usually comes with midseason roster changes.

The appeal is built on the work Antley already put in at Tampa Bay. By February 2024, he had made 98 appearances across three seasons and had helped the Rowdies win the 2021 Championship Players’ Shield and Eastern Conference. The club later put his total at 102 appearances across all competitions, a number that says plenty about how much trust Tampa Bay had in him before sending him to D.C. United in February 2024.

That previous move gave D.C. United a player it now sends back to the USL Championship, and the timing shows both clubs managing roster needs with some precision. D.C. United also signed goalkeeper Jordan Farr from the Rowdies on Nov. 20, 2024, and added Kimito Nono from Kashima Antlers on July 29, 2026, part of a late-summer stretch of movement around the roster. For Tampa Bay, the point is narrower and more urgent: Antley arrives with built-in familiarity and the kind of reliability clubs lean on when results start to carry playoff weight.

In practical terms, the Rowdies did not just add another body to the depth chart. They reacquired a defender who already knows how the club functions and what is expected on matchday, which can matter more than raw upside in August. When a team is trying to steady itself, a short-term loan only helps if the player can speak the same defensive language from day one. Antley already can.
