Rowdies top the East as Charleston Battery chase in tight race

Tampa Bay Rowdies sat alone at the top of the Eastern Conference with 33 points after Week 20, and Charleston Battery were still close enough to keep the chase alive at five points back. The margin has stayed manageable because the two clubs split points in a 2-2 draw on June 10, a result that also pushed Tampa Bay’s unbeaten run to 15 matches across all competitions.

That draw is the clearest proof that the East is still crowded beneath the leaders. Tampa Bay have the points cushion, but Charleston remain in second place and have already shown they can trade punches with the Rowdies over 90 minutes. A race that tight rarely stays static for long, especially once the league enters the summer stretch and every result starts to tilt the table.

The timing matters. USL Championship’s Week 20 power rankings, along with Team of the Week and Goal of the Week and Save of the Week features covering Weeks 19 and 20, put a spotlight on the middle of the season and the clubs trying to separate from the pack. Tampa Bay’s position also carries the weight of history. That pedigree does not guarantee the East stays theirs, though, because Charleston’s pursuit is still active and the gap remains one good week from looking different.
