Sacramento Republic FC midfielder Pierre Reedy announces retirement from pro soccer
Pierre Reedy’s retirement leaves Sacramento Republic FC with one less player who could change games without changing the shape of the team. Released from the remainder of his contract by mutual consent on Monday, June 29, Reedy exits after a brief Sacramento stint, but the timing matters more than the length: the Republic lose a seasoned, adaptable piece as they move into the back half of the season.
The club made the move publicly after Reedy missed much of 2026 with a preseason injury, then finally debuted for Sacramento on June 6 and helped the side take two points in USL Cup play. Republic FC president and general manager Tim Holt praised Reedy’s professionalism and character, saying he “will always be part of the Indomitable Family,” and the club said it will be cheering him on as he starts his next chapter. That language fits the way Sacramento has treated this one, as an ending reached with mutual respect rather than a sudden break.

What Sacramento loses is more than a body. Reedy arrived in December 2025 after two seasons with Spokane Velocity FC, where he helped the expansion club reach consecutive league finals and posted 35 appearances, four goals and five assists across all competitions. His USL League One league line was even sharper: 29 appearances, 11 goals and three assists in 2025 alone. That split tells the story of a player who could be deployed in different roles and competitions without disappearing from the action, the kind of flexible veteran coaches lean on when injuries hit and the schedule tightens.
His Sacramento résumé may be short, but his career was built on versatility. The Republic’s roster bio says Reedy made 18 appearances for Real Monarchs and two short-term loan appearances for Real Salt Lake, then trialed with Dundee FC after the 2022 season before earning a contract there for the second half of that campaign. He also spent a 2023 stretch with Charleston Battery in the USL Championship, part of a team that finished strong enough to claim the Eastern Conference Championship.
Reedy’s path also runs through Penn State, where he won the 2021 Big Ten Medal of Honor and helped the Nittany Lions take the Big Ten regular-season title that same year. Before college, he came through the New York Red Bulls Academy, and EPYSA described him as a Kutztown native and Eastern Pennsylvania ODP product who added a state cup and regional championship to his youth record. Sacramento now has to replace that blend of experience, adaptability and leadership from within its existing group, or absorb a real depth hit over the next stretch of the season.
