SC4 men win Great Lakes District C title, reach nationals

St. Clair County Community College beat Lakeland Community College of Ohio to win the NJCAA Great Lakes District C Championship and secure a spot in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament.

For the Skippers, the title carried more weight than a standard postseason win. It came in a winner-take-all district setting against a program from another state, on a neutral floor at Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan, during the March 4-8, 2025, Great Lakes C district championship. That stage mattered because it demanded survival under tournament pressure, not just regular-season consistency.

The victory marked one of the biggest postseason achievements in recent SC4 men’s basketball history and gave the program a new level of reach. By taking the district crown, SC4 moved from regional contention to the national bracket, where every possession will come against a deeper, stronger field and the margin for error shrinks fast.

That is what makes the Skippers’ run a program-defining step. Winning a district title over Lakeland validated the work that carried SC4 through the season and into March, and it gave the coaching staff and college community a tangible sign that the program has climbed into the upper tier of NJCAA competition. The payoff is immediate: a district championship banner and a place on the national stage.

The national tournament now becomes the next test, and the same qualities that got SC4 through the district bracket will matter even more there. The Skippers have already shown they can handle a neutral-site postseason run and deliver when advancement is on the line. Now they head to nationals with a championship in hand and the kind of momentum that can change how a program is viewed beyond its region.
