Seattle Seven Hills beat Lexington KOI in the U-20 mixed final in Aurora, Colorado, closing a rematch that had been framed as a seeding crossover test and then played as a fight over whether KOI could shrink the game. USA Ultimate later listed Seven Hills as the champion, with one post putting the score at 14-9 and another at 15-10, and described the Seattle program as winning its fourth mixed title.

KOI’s route to the title game made the upset case more credible than a simple underdog label. USA Ultimate’s schedule and results page showed Lexington seeded seventh in Pool B, while Ultiworld’s Aug. 3 preview set the matchup up as a crossover rematch rather than a clean slate. That setup mattered because rematches in mixed ultimate usually turn on adjustment speed: the lower seed has already seen the shape of the opponent’s marks, space and timing, and the question becomes whether it can translate that film into cleaner possessions.

For KOI, the blueprint had to start with offense. The Kentucky side needed better line balance and more confident throws so Seattle could not dictate the tempo with long defensive stretches and fast counterbreaks. In a mixed division final, one rushed huck or one stalled possession can snowball quickly, so KOI’s best chance was to force the game into a narrower range of exchanges, where each point carried more weight and Seattle’s depth advantage mattered less.

The rematch also had to be won on matchups. KOI needed to make Seven Hills defend awkward, repeated assignments instead of simply reacting to one isolated point, and then punish any hesitation in transition offense before Seattle could reset its shape. That is the kind of game plan that can turn familiarity into leverage: not more possessions, but better ones, with fewer turnovers and fewer chances for a historically strong program to settle in.

Seattle entered the final with the stronger overall profile and left Aurora with a trophy that underscored its place in the youth game.
