Senators draft 6-foot-6 goalie Elliot Lennon from Deerfield Academy
Ottawa spent the fourth round on upside, taking 6-foot-6 goaltender Elliot Lennon 110th overall and making him one of six players the Senators selected on Day 2 of the 2026 draft. The pick fit the club’s stated approach: Steve Staios had pushed scouts to chase high-end traits, and Lennon checked the boxes Ottawa values most in a long-term goalie bet.
Lennon was born March 5, 2008, in Kirkland, Quebec, and came through Kuper Academy before moving to Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts. He catches left-handed and is listed at 181 pounds, a frame that still leaves room for more strength without sacrificing the athleticism that has made him such an intriguing projection. Ottawa had already shown a willingness to lean into the U.S. prep route, and Lennon gave the Senators a goalie with a cleaner development runway than a larger junior résumé might have offered. He had been drafted by the QMJHL’s Québec Remparts in 2024, but chose Deerfield and the NCAA path instead, with Brown University listed as his commitment for 2027-28.

The numbers at Deerfield explain why. Lennon posted a .936 save percentage and a 1.84 goals-against average in 26 games during the 2025-26 season, production that placed him among the top USHS-Prep goaltenders. He was named USHS-Prep Goaltender of the Year for 2024-25, an award that underscored how quickly he established himself once he left the Canadian major-junior track behind.
Lennon also got a small but useful taste of pro-adjacent speed in the USHL, skating in two games for the Madison Capitols as an affiliated goaltender. He went 1-1 with a 3.40 goals-against average and an .865 save percentage in those appearances. Madison later noted that Lennon was one of three Capitols players selected in the 2026 NHL Draft, while ECAC Hockey highlighted him as one of eight league-tied players taken on Day 2.

Ottawa’s choice was not about a finished product. It was about a 6-foot-6 goalie with size, composure and athletic upside, plus a Brown commitment that keeps his next steps on a steady NCAA track.
