Southwestern Community College unveils 18-player roster for 2026-27 season

Darryl Fletcher unveiled an 18-player roster for Southwestern Community College’s 2026-27 men’s basketball team, and the build tells the story of a program choosing depth and competition over continuity. The rest of the roster includes a freshman class that adds another layer of development to a group already built on movement and change.

That mix is the point. In NJCAA basketball, programs rarely get the luxury of slow-building around the same core for multiple seasons, and an 18-player roster gives Southwestern more room to absorb the usual interruptions that can hit a junior-college schedule. Foul trouble, injuries and academic turnover can reshape a lineup in a hurry, so a deeper roster can be the difference between surviving a rough week and falling behind in the standings. Fletcher’s construction gives him options at the guard spots, on the wing and in the frontcourt, while also creating real competition for minutes before the season reaches conference play.

The turnover is striking when set against Southwestern’s previous roster cycle. The Spartans’ 2025-26 team pages showed how much movement the program had already experienced from one season to the next, and the roster reset now carries that into a new phase. Even with that churn, Southwestern showed it could still win tight games, including an 82-80 result over North Iowa Area Community College in January. That kind of margin matters in NJCAA basketball, where one possession often defines a season.

Fletcher’s new-look group suggests Southwestern is trying to keep that edge while expanding its margin for error. With Wilson back, four transfers arriving from different places and a freshman class filling out the board, the Spartans are betting that balance can turn roster turnover into a competitive advantage in 2026-27.
