STAR YPN announces nine-hole FootGolf fundraiser for local charities
STAR YPN’s Annual Footgolf Tournament opened as a nine-hole charity play date built to support the STAR Foundation and the Pinellas Opportunity Council. The registration page, indexed Aug. 4, framed the event plainly: “Join us for 9 holes of FootGolf to support the STAR Foundation and Pinellas Opportunity Council.”
That short format gave the tournament its appeal. Nine holes makes FootGolf less intimidating for newcomers than a full-length round, while still offering a real competitive and social setting on a golf course. For players curious about the sport but not ready for a longer event, the setup offered a straightforward way to step in, play a quick round and back a local cause in the same outing.
The beneficiary organizations sharpened the event’s civic edge. The Pinellas Opportunity Council says its mission is to help alleviate conditions of poverty, revitalize local communities and promote self-sufficiency by mobilizing resources to develop and implement programs that address individual, family and community needs. That meant the tournament was not just a casual outing for young professionals, but a fundraiser linked to anti-poverty work and service delivery in the region.

The registration page also showed a formal event structure rather than an informal meetup. STAR YPN used a sign-up system to manage the tournament, underscoring that the outing was organized, scheduled and intended to function as part of its annual programming. That fit neatly inside the broader Suncoast Tampa Association of REALTORS events ecosystem, where YPN listings already appear alongside Pinellas County events and in-person association programming.
The audience for the tournament was clear from the association structure around it. The YPN rules specify that participants include REALTOR or Affiliate Business Partner members of the association in good standing, which places the event inside a built-in professional network. For FootGolf, that matters because the sport grows fastest when it is easy to join, easy to explain and tied to something larger than the scorecard. STAR YPN’s nine-hole fundraiser checked all three boxes, making the round as much about access and charitable support as competition.
