Swope FootGolf outing adds contests, prizes to 18-hole round

A $35 entry fee turned the Swope Heart of America Footgolf Course at Heart of America Golf Course into an 18-hole competition with contests and age-group prizes for kids and adults alike. The July 27 Instagram post promoted the July 26 outing as more than a casual kick-around, using the added awards to give the round a tournament feel. That setup made the day a low-cost entry point for players who want FootGolf to feel organized instead of informal.

The format fit the course itself. Heart of America Golf Course in Swope Park has 18 FootGolf holes, takes no tee times and runs first come, first served. Players can bring their own soccer ball or rent one in the golf shop, and the facility says it can host FootGolf outings, birthday bashes and family competition.

That accessibility has been part of the pitch around the venue for years. Kansas City, Missouri Parks & Recreation and Orion Management Solutions introduced FootGolf there on The Rock course, and Sporting Kansas City promoted Heart of America in 2016 as Kansas City’s first FootGolf course, with 18 holes for players of all ages and abilities. In that earlier promotion, Swope Park Rangers ticket holders could buy two rounds of FootGolf for the price of one on home gamedays.

The age-group prizes are what turn the outing from a simple 18-hole round into something repeatable. Juniors have a separate path to compete, adults have a reason to keep score seriously, and older players are not forced into the same prize pool as younger, faster players. For a sport that depends on easy access and a clear scoring system, that matters: the structure rewards more than one kind of player and gives the course a way to bring people back for the next contest.
