Texas park adds glowing FootGolf night at Galveston Island State Park
Galveston Island State Park is taking FootGolf out of the daylight slot and turning it into a night-time showpiece. Friday Night Footgolf, Glow Edition! is scheduled for Friday, June 26, 2026, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with glowing soccer balls and illuminated targets setting the tone after sunset along the coast.
The setup is as practical as it is flashy. The meetup point is the beach picnic area, admission is $5 for adults, and children 12 and under get in free. Park entry is also free with a Texas State Parks Pass, and the event is designed to begin after the fee booth closes, which gives the whole thing the feel of a special evening run rather than a standard daytime park program. Attendees are told to bring bug spray, water and sneakers, and Regina Lillibridge is listed as the contact at Galveston Island State Park, reachable at (409) 737-1222 x226.
TPWD is using the glow format to make a bigger point than just novelty. The program opens with a quick ranger talk on how soccer connects cultures around the world, and how the Gulf Coast brings together people, wildlife and ecosystems from across continents. That framing matters. It turns a simple round of FootGolf into a low-pressure entry point for families, tourists and first-timers who may never step onto a traditional course, but might show up for an after-dark outing that feels more like an event than a lesson.

The timing is no accident either. TPWD casts the night as a weekend kickoff and notes that soccer fans are in town for the big matches in Houston. In other words, the park is trying to catch the energy around the sport, then translate it into a coastal experience that fits Galveston Island better than a standard tee sheet ever could. The glow balls do the selling, but the ranger talk gives the outing a purpose.
FootGolf itself has always been built for flexibility. The modern version is widely traced to the Netherlands in 2008, and the Federation for International FootGolf, or FIFG, now serves as the global governing body and rule-setter. That makes a state park version feel less like a gimmick and more like a smart fit for a sport that already works best when it is stripped down, easy to try and open to almost anyone. On June 26, Galveston Island State Park is betting that under the lights, FootGolf can reach people a daytime round never would.
