Tri-City United brings back family FootGolf tournament at El Zagal course

Tri-City United Soccer Club has set its second annual Family FootGolf Tournament for Wednesday, Aug. 12 at El Zagal Golf Course, with tee times starting at 4:30 p.m. and prizes up for grabs. Registration is open through tricityunited.org, giving the club another run at turning soccer families into first-time FootGolf players.

The event is built around a simple pitch: a fun, family-friendly tournament that brings together players, families, coaches, sponsors and supporters to enjoy soccer in a different setting while celebrating the TCU community. Tri-City United has been pushing that message across Facebook and Instagram with reminders that the tournament is "one week out" and that families can "kick it with us next Wednesday," underscoring how central the club sees the outing in its summer calendar.

The choice of venue matters as much as the format. El Zagal Golf Course is described as the only FootGolf course in the Fargo-Moorhead area, which gives Tri-City United a rare local stage for a sport that still relies heavily on accessible, low-pressure entry points. El Zagal has also leaned into the niche, promoting August as "Buy-One-Get-One FootGolf" month, a sign that the course is helping create a repeat-play environment rather than treating FootGolf as a one-off novelty.

That makes the tournament more than a club gathering. A second annual edition suggests the first was strong enough to bring it back, and the late-afternoon start is a practical choice for working parents and youth players who want to try the sport without a full-day commitment. The course reopened in 2016 after almost two years of closure tied to levee reconstruction, and its renewed role as a recreation site has since extended into FootGolf.
