Tubbs late winner lifts Orange County SC back atop the West
Orange County SC did not get style points at Cashman Field, but it got something more valuable: a road win that survived every swing Las Vegas Lights FC could throw at it. Garrison Tubbs delivered the decisive touch in the 76th minute, and Alex Rando’s six-save night helped Orange County leave Las Vegas with a 3-2 result, back atop the Western Conference.
The match had the feel of a game that could have slipped away from a lesser side. Orange County nearly struck first when Ousmane Sylla forced Mason Stajduhar into a strong early save, but Las Vegas countered with the opener before halftime when Oalex Anderson headed home Christian Pinzón’s back-post service. It was Anderson’s fourth goal of the 2026 season, and it put the hosts in front in a game that already looked tilted toward momentum rather than control.
Orange County answered with the kind of sequence playoff-caliber teams tend to produce when the game gets messy. Lyam MacKinnon battled through a defender in the final minute of the first half and finished a ball over the top to level it at 1-1, then Yaniv Bazini pounced on a defensive miscommunication 10 minutes into the second half and rolled into an open net for a 2-1 lead. Las Vegas responded again in the 66th minute, when Johnny Rodriguez finished a sustained spell of pressure in the box to make it 2-2 and keep the night in flux.
That set the stage for Tubbs, who buried the go-ahead goal off a corner after the Lights failed to clear properly. Orange County had spent most of the night proving it could absorb pressure without losing its shape, and the payoff came in the one moment that mattered most. The finish was the difference, but the composure behind it was the real story.

Las Vegas still had a final chance to rescue a point. Christian Pinzón came close to forcing a stoppage-time equalizer, but Rando denied him twice, including one effort that wound up off the crossbar. That late work preserved a result that ended Las Vegas’ three-game undefeated streak and extended Orange County’s league unbeaten run to four matches.
The win carried extra weight because Orange County had not won a USL Championship match after conceding first since June 2, 2024 against Detroit City FC, a run of 25 straight league games without a victory when allowing the opening goal. Now Orange County is back in first place in the West, with a midweek trip to Miami ahead before the midseason break. The 1-1 draw between these sides on March 7, 2026 had already hinted at how tight this matchup could be; this time, Tubbs made the closing statement.
