USA Football Select Bowl draws 380 athletes to Los Angeles

More than 380 athletes were selected for USA Football’s 2026 Select Bowl, a sign that the National Team Development Program has grown far beyond a single showcase. The two-day event at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, ran alongside a June 17-21 Summer Series in Los Angeles that brought together about 1,000 athletes and team personnel and put the sport’s Olympic future on full display.

The Select Bowl sat at the top of USA Football’s pathway, with athletes earning invitations through Talent ID Camps, Digital Combines and other evaluation events. Those chosen in the national pool were split into eight four-team divisions, covering 12U boys, 12U girls, 14U boys, 14U girls, 16U boys, 16U girls, 18U girls and 23U women. USA Football said the format was designed to place top rising players directly in front of U.S. National Team personnel and evaluators ahead of the 2026 U.S. National Team Trials.

That structure matters because the Select Bowl is no longer just a stand-alone championship weekend. It has become the proving ground at the end of a ladder that runs from local evaluation events to national-team consideration, then on to Stars & States and U.S. National Team Trials. USA Football also framed the week as a learning environment, with top coaches guiding athletes through Olympic-style rules and staff-led sessions on conditioning, mental performance, nutrition, hydration and recovery.

The scale of the Summer Series showed where the talent base is expanding. USA Football said the week drew athletes and teams from across the United States and from abroad, with international competition involving athletes from 10 countries, while the organization’s promotion highlighted eight countries on the Summer Series landing page. The broader week in Los Angeles also included the Junior International Cup, Stars & States and the U.S.-Canada Rivalry Series, all part of a citywide push that USA Football said previewed the sport’s global stage.

Presented by Under Armour, the Select Bowl was streamed on HomeTeam Network and again underscored how aggressively USA Football is building for flag football’s Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The event has grown from its first run in 2024, and this year’s field, larger and more geographically diverse, suggested the pipeline is deepening at exactly the moment the sport is moving into its biggest spotlight.
