USA Padel opens national team applications for Pan American Open 2026

USA Padel opened Cat Libres national-team applications for the Pan American Open pathway, giving non-professional players a formal route into its amateur team structure. The federation’s Pan American Open Championships page said USPA player applications for Cat Libres opened on August 1, 2024, a move that places open-category athletes inside the same national-team conversation as juniors and seniors.

USA Padel’s National Team page makes the category’s purpose clear: Cat Libres is open to non-professional players and is treated as an amateur team. That makes the application window especially relevant for club standouts, regional circuit regulars and domestic tournament players who may not fit a professional track but still have the results to justify international consideration. In a U.S. market still building depth, that pool is often the largest one available.

The federation’s selection structure points to a blend of merit and discretion. A 2026 US Seniors National Team Selection Criteria document dated April 20, 2026 says 75% of players within each competition category will be selected through rankings. The remaining places may be filled by the US National Team Coach and assistant coaches using USPA age-category ranking, USPA absolute ranking, FIP ranking and tournament results. For Cat Libres hopefuls, that framework signals that rankings matter first, but tournament form can still move a player into the picture.

USA Padel has also tied Cat Libres into its wider national-team machinery. Its training camp page says the camp is designed for players interested in either the Cat Libres, Amateur, or the Seniors, Age Group, National Teams. In its 2025 annual report, distributed and accurate as of January 17, 2026, the federation listed Pan American Cat Libres among its international competition highlights, showing the pathway already had competition history inside the organization.

The 2026 National Teams Calendar widens that ladder further. It listed the Padel America Cup, USA v Ecuador, in Quito, Ecuador, for April 17-19, 2026, Pan American Junior Circuit II in Colombia for July 2-4, 2026, Pan American Junior Circuit III in Mexico for August 6-8, 2026 and the FIP Senior World Cup beginning September 1, 2026. Together, those dates and categories show USA Padel building a clearer route from domestic competition to continental representation, with Cat Libres sitting squarely in the middle of that progression.
