USA Racquetball opens Hall of Fame nominations for 2027 class

USA Racquetball opened nominations for its 2027 Hall of Fame class with a Sept. 15 deadline, giving the sport’s clubs, former pros, coaches and longtime volunteers a narrow window to get names on the record. The organization’s annual call landed on July 23, leaving roughly seven weeks to build cases for players and contributors whose work has shaped racquetball over years, not just in one tournament run.

The Hall is not built on popularity or a single big win. USA Racquetball’s nomination procedures say it recognizes athletes and contributors who have shown outstanding achievement in competition or in the development, leadership and advancement of the sport, and that the award is based on an extended period of consistent excellence. That standard matters because racquetball history is often written in club hallways, junior programs, regional events and administrative work that can be easy to miss if nobody documents it when it is happening.

The nomination categories make the bar explicit. COMPETITOR is for an amateur or professional player whose impact has come through competitive excellence, sportsmanship and fair play. CONTRIBUTOR is for a nominee whose mark on the game came through development, leadership and advancement. That split is the real gatekeeper in the process: a Hall of Fame case can rest on titles and results, but it can also rest on the kind of behind-the-scenes work that keeps leagues running, draws new players and expands the sport’s reach.

The timing gives nominators a chance to do the homework that Hall of Fame cases usually require. A strong submission is not just a name on a form; it can hinge on championship records, coaching influence, service to the sport and other evidence of sustained value. USA Racquetball used the same Sept. 15 deadline for Hall of Fame and annual award nominations in a reminder posted on Aug. 16, 2024, and the organization announced its 2025 Hall of Fame inductees on Jan. 20, 2025, underscoring that the nomination window feeds into an established annual cycle.

That makes this the moment for racquetball’s historians and lifers to start preserving what could otherwise disappear. The sport’s memory lives in club archives, old draw sheets, local trophies and the people who were there when the next generation was built, and the Hall of Fame exists to make sure those names do not get lost before the 2027 class is chosen.
