USC Salkehatchie lands Australian guard Seliano Melekiola for backcourt boost
USC Salkehatchie widened its recruiting map again with the commitment of Australian guard Seliano Melekiola, a backcourt addition built on club and representative basketball in Canberra rather than prospect hype. The move gives Matt Lynch another guard with pace and creation, the kind of profile that fits a program that went 24-8 in 2025-26 and competes in NJCAA Division I, Region 10.
Melekiola, known as Selly, announced his commitment to USC Salkehatchie on June 22, 2026. His path has been shaped by repeated runs against strong competition, including time with the Canberra Gunners and a standout role for the under-20 ACT side at the 2026 Nationals. Basketball ACT listed him on its 2025 ACT men’s team alongside Ajak Nyuon, Aleer Chol, Austin Fage, Ben Godwin, Biar Wal, Bul Dhieu, Damian Cooney, Lachlan Gudgeon-Back, Max Manning, Sam Steel and Musgrove, with Andrew Martin as head coach and Mark McKenzie and James Toohey as assistants.
That background matters because Melekiola arrives as more than a highlight reel guard. AUSA Hoops described him as a dynamic playmaker, and his 2026 numbers with Basketball Victoria’s BigV team back that up: 14.0 points per game, 1.67 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 48.33 percent shooting across six games. For a junior-college backcourt, that combination of scoring and ball movement can change the shape of a possession, especially for a team looking to pressure defenses and create offense before the half court is set.

His exposure has not been limited to local competition. AUSA Hoops said Melekiola impressed during a July 2025 tour against NXT Pro and Pro 16, another marker that he has already handled organized, high-level games in multiple settings. The pathway organization also says it has placed more than 340 players in U.S. college and pro programs since 2013, a reminder of how international recruiting has become part of the junior-college business.
Lynch, who became USC Salkehatchie’s head coach in January 2023, has already shown he can build quickly. The program went 20-14 and won the Region 10 Tournament in his first season before pushing to 24-8 last year. With Melekiola joining the roster in Walterboro, South Carolina, USC Salkehatchie has added a guard whose Australian reps, production and tempo fit a staff still leaning into ambitious, global recruiting.
