Vanguard Quadball marks Pride with trans-inclusive recruitment push

“Happy Pride Vancouver! We are playing quidditch the way JK Rowling Intended (Trans Inclusive),” Vanguard Quadball wrote in a Pride reel posted Aug. 8, and the message did not stop at celebration. The caption added, “Like seriously, this sport can be so Gay,” then invited people to join the club this month.

The post put Vanguard’s identity front and center at a moment when Vancouver Pride was still shaping the city’s late-summer calendar. Vancouver Pride 2026 ran from July 25 to Aug. 2 under the theme “Unapologetically Queer,” and organizers expected more than 9,000 people at the Sunday parade, with security a top priority after a Pride attack in Berlin earlier in the month. Against that backdrop, Vanguard used Pride not as decoration but as a clear statement that trans players and queer athletes are part of the club’s core audience.

That positioning fits the way Vanguard presents itself on Instagram. The club profile describes the group as “Vancouver’s community Quadball team” and adds, “Come Join us!!” At the time of the search, the account showed 366 followers and 305 following, a sign of a small local club using social media as both a public face and a recruiting tool.

The reel matters because quadball has long marketed itself as a sport that makes room for LGBTQ+ and trans players, but Vanguard’s caption made that message unusually explicit. By pairing Pride language with a direct invitation to join this month, the club tied inclusion to participation, not just branding. The result was a short, edited Instagram post built for sharing, but also for onboarding players who may be looking for a team where queer and trans identity is not only accepted, but openly celebrated.
