Those manager jobs usually sit behind the scenes, but they are not ceremonial. For students, the role can be an entry point into athletics operations and team leadership without having to put pads or a flag belt on.

West Orange High School, at 1625 Beulah Rd. in Winter Garden, Florida, already has public girls flag football team pages on MaxPreps and Hudl, and its athletics site has a 2026-2027 girls varsity flag football schedule page. That page currently says there is no schedule posted for 2026-2027 varsity girls flag football, but the existence of the page itself shows the program is planning ahead in a way that mirrors more established school sports.

The broader state picture backs that up. The Florida High School Athletic Association has an official flag football section and rankings page, and on Aug. 23, 2024, it published spring sport classifications for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years. The association then published 2026 season information on Dec. 16, 2025, another sign that girls flag football has a defined place in Florida’s high school calendar rather than a one-off add-on.

Nationally, the National Federation of State High School Associations has identified girls flag football as an emerging high school sport. West Orange’s search for five student managers fits that growth pattern. As rosters, schedules and support roles become more formalized, the sport starts to look less like a new experiment and more like a program with enough traction to need staff, structure and students willing to do the unglamorous work that makes game nights possible.
