World Dodgeball Federation backs Europe’s 2026 regional championship plan
The World Dodgeball Federation amplified the European Dodgeball Federation’s 2026 regional championship plan, putting Ghent, Aberdeen and Vienna on the map as the sport’s next competitive checkpoints. The EDF says its regional championships have been run as four events since 2024: the Central European Championships, Northern European Championships, Western European Championships and Eastern European Championships. That structure matters because it gives federations a clearer ladder for selecting teams, measuring depth and scheduling the run-up to larger continental and world events.
Ghent is the most detailed stop so far. Dodgeball Belgium says the Western European Championship 2026 will run from 20 to 22 March at Vlaams Wielercentrum Eddy Merckx in Ghent, and an EDF social-post snippet says the event will feature eight nations. A separate EDF Facebook snippet for the groups draw listed eight nations and 38 teams, with the host nation among the entrants. The scale of that field gives Belgium and the rest of Western Europe an early test against a full championship bracket before the summer calendar moves on.
The Northern European Championships are set for Aberdeen, Scotland, from 7 to 9 August 2026, with EDF’s page noting cloth as the ball type. EDF has also pointed to Vienna as the Central European Championships host in 2026, extending the calendar across the continent and giving national bodies multiple reference points for planning travel, player pools and training blocks. With one region in March, another in August and another already tied to Vienna, the pathway is taking shape in public rather than behind closed doors.
For players and coaches, that public calendar is the point. Regional championships are where national programs find out who can handle neighboring rivalries, tighter tournament fields and the pressure of selection in real time. The WDF post did not include a detailed schedule, matchups or final brackets, but its decision to spotlight EDF’s plan signaled that Europe’s international structure is settling into a more formal season-by-season rhythm, with each regional championship feeding the next level of competition.
