Wyttenbach scores twice as USA Blue beats Finland 5-1

Ethan Wyttenbach made the sharpest move in Team USA’s evaluation pool, scoring twice as USA Blue rolled past Finland 5-1 at the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase in Windsor, Ont. Carter Sanderson added a goal and an assist, and USA White later topped Sweden 6-4 as the Americans swept day two at WFCU Centre.

For USHL prospect watchers, that kind of multi-point night matters because the showcase is built for sorting out who can handle international pace and pressure when every shift is being tracked. USA Hockey invited 47 players to the camp, which underscores how crowded the race is for the roster decisions that will shape the path to the IIHF World Junior Championship.

Wyttenbach, from Roslyn, N.Y., gave USA Blue the kind of offensive push that sticks with evaluators in a short event. A two-goal game is hard to ignore in July, especially against Finland, and it gives the forward a clean calling card in a pool full of players trying to separate themselves before the calendar turns toward deeper roster cuts and role assignments.

Sanderson’s night was nearly as useful. The goal and assist showed he was not just finishing plays but helping drive them, the sort of production staffers look for when they start sorting out who can handle special teams or a heavier matchup role later in the process. USA White’s win over Sweden added another data point, with Victor Plante setting up three goals in the 6-4 result, another performance that put his playmaking on display against international competition.

The Americans also got a useful rhythm test from the schedule itself. Team USA opened the showcase July 26 with USA Blue beating Sweden and USA White falling to Finland, then followed it up by handling both games on July 27 at WFCU Centre. The next checkpoint comes Wednesday, July 29, when Finland faces USA at 3 p.m. ET on HNLive.ca, with Sweden and Canada set for 7 p.m. ET.

That quick turnaround is part of why the showcase carries so much weight inside USA Hockey’s summer calendar. The event runs July 26-August 1 and sits inside the federation’s long-running National Junior Evaluation Camp process, which USA Hockey says has helped identify the roster for the World Juniors and, through its Player Development Camps dating to 1977, has served as a launch point for future Olympians and professionals. For Wyttenbach, Sanderson and Plante, the first two days offered exactly the kind of tape that can move a name up the board.
