The Kansas City Chiefs have had an unbelievable half-decade. They’ve won two Super Bowls and are perennial contenders with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes at the helm. But recent humiliating defeats against the likes of the Raiders, Packers, and Bills suggest they’re currently on the brink of a complete meltdown.
This may seem like an overreaction but the reality is that they aren’t reaching even close to the same levels as they have before. There are offensive and defensive problems and a ton of issues in their receiver room. Then there’s the massive shadow of Mahomes’ contract that may prevent them from fully rebuilding. Check out why they’re having a complete meltdown now.
Mahomes’ Interceptions
We’ll certainly talk plenty about Kansas City’s receiver problems but let’s start with the man feeding them passes. Patrick Mahomes is arguably the best quarterback in the NFL but he isn’t playing that way. The two-time MVP is throwing interceptions at a higher clip than ever before in his career.
Meanwhile, CBS Sports reported a 33% decline in explosive pass plays per game for the Chiefs. This means he’s not throwing the ball as far with the same dramatic outcome. The future Hall of Famer isn’t as meticulous as he was in previous years and isn’t reaching his usual high standards.
