Being the head coach of an NFL franchise is by no means an easy task. There are many different factors and areas candidates need to consider. And even experienced coaches with a long history in the game struggle in the hot seat. Sometimes, those coaches outstay their welcome. Today we’re going to look at 35 who should have been fired earlier.
Some of these men endured horrendous spells in charge of their teams and it’s a miracle that they lasted as long as they did. Not for their suffering fans, though. However, there are also a few coaches who even won Super Bowls and hung around for a little bit too long. Check out the list via Medium.
35. Adam Gase
A two-time NFL head coach, Gase was not a success. Peyton Manning credited him with revitalizing his career and enhanced his appeal for top jobs across the league. Firstly, Gase took charge of the Miami Dolphins and led them to a 10-6 winning season and a loss in the AFC Wild Card game. Successive losing seasons saw Miami sack him as they looked to take the franchise in a new direction.
Then he took over the Jets. He only lasted for two years in New York but he’ll never be welcome back in the Big Apple. He ruined Sam Darnold and failed to inspire them in one of the weakest divisions in the NFL. Meanwhile, his supposed attacking flair was not apparent. When fans show up to games with paper bags over their heads there is clearly something wrong. It’s unlikely that he’ll ever be a head coach again.
