25 Must-Watch NFL Games Of The 2020 Season

Darren - May 11, 2020

It’s a tough time for sports fans out there. The UFC is the only major sports organization operating in the US at the moment. However, if you want to watch a ball game then you’re stuck with the Nicaragua and Tajikistan soccer leagues. True, fans are learning some juicy secrets about Michael Jordan on “The Last Dance,” yet they still hunger for real in-league games.

But not to worry. One league that looks like it’s going to come out of all of this unscathed is the NFL. We’re still four months away from kickoff so time is on their side. So in order to get fans excited, we’re going to take a look at some of the most exciting and intriguing games from this season’s schedule. We can’t wait for football to return. Check out the list with info via Sporting News below.

25. Cleveland Browns vs. Cincinnati Bengals – Week 2:

This has the potential to be one of the most fun games of the year. First of all, we need to talk about Joe Burrow. Fresh off the greatest college season we’ve ever seen, this is where he’s really going to start settling into life as an NFL starter. Just how good is this kid? We’re going to find out, especially in the notoriously tough games of the AFC North.

Meanwhile, the Browns have quietly strengthened after a hyped then disastrous 2019. Baker Mayfield has an exciting surrounding cast. Jack Conklin and Jedrick Wills are talented offensive tackles, while a fit Odell Beckham Jr. is a frightening prospect for anybody. As a spectacle, this could be great.

24. Los Angeles Rams vs. Dallas Cowboys – Week 1:

In 2018, the Rams won 13 games and made the Super Bowl, losing to the New England Patriots. In 2019, they faltered mightily and missed the playoffs. They’ll be desperate to improve on that this term. Their future is unknown with quarterback Jared Goff catching some heat and the luster worn off coach Sean McVay somewhat. This Week 1 clash with the Cowboys could reveal a lot.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

This game will christen the Ram’s lavish new state-of-the-art SoFi Stadium for the first game at the L.A. stadium. And who better to play against than ‘America’s Team’ when you’re opening your new stadium? It’s as glamorous a fixture as fans could have hoped for. Furthermore, it’s going to be CeeDee Lamb’s first game for the Cowboys and their ever-evolving offense. Excitement is peaking and the Cowboys need to start strong after losing eight games last season.

23. New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins – Week 1:

This is as compelling a game as any on this list. The first game of the new Patriots era without Tom Brady will see them welcome the Dolphins to town. They didn’t draft a new quarterback, so lesser-known prospect Jarret Stidham will start. How will he cope with the eyes of the world on him? Brady’s are some big shoes to fill.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

As well as this, the game plays host to one of the most underrated rivalries on the East Coast. Traditionally, the Dolphins were the more successful team before the Patriots began their long dynasty of glory. However, Miami threw a wrench in New England’s Super Bowl repeat plans by taking away their home-field advantage in 2019. Without a bye, they then lost in the first round of the playoffs. The Dolphins are on the upswing while Nw England is (gasp) rebuilding, making this an AFC East rivalry to keep an eye on this season.

22. Kansas City Chiefs vs. Houston Texans – Week 1:

The very first game of the NFL season, the sports-starved world will be watching this one. Assuming that it happens, of course. Surely, the world will be back to some form of normality in four months? We hope so because this Week 1 match-up is a great way for the new season to kick off.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

On the field, there will be an interesting tactical battle between two great young quarterbacks in Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. This is a budding rivalry as well. The Chiefs famously came back from a 3-24 start to somehow defeat Houston 51-31 in the AFC Divisional Playoff last season. Kansas City went on to win the Super Bowl in dramatic fashion. Both teams will want to make a statement from the beginning. However, the Chiefs especially will want to prove that they’re not ready to rest on their laurels.

21. Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers – Week 8:

Last season’s Week 17 loss to the 49ers was a bitter pill for Seahawks fans to swallow. A win would have guaranteed them a weekend away in New Orleans this season instead of back-to-back trips to Atlanta. This is one of the biggest rivalries in the NFC West and will be in full force in Week 8.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

The bookmakers don’t expect a lot from the Seahawks this year, so they’ll be desperate to prove everybody wrong. They do have a favorable schedule so if they can get some momentum going, then the playoffs might not be far away. Russell Wilson will want to remind everyone what he can do.

20. San Francisco 49ers vs. Green Bay Packers – Week 9:

A rematch of last seasons NFC Championship game, this should be a scorcher. Add in the Aaron Rodgers dimension and all of a sudden this is a very compelling match-up. After the Packers controversially drafted his replacement Jordan Love in 2020, everything he does will be the subject of scrutiny.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

Add in the fact that the 49ers have a mean defense and suddenly this is a very tough task for the Packers. San Francisco mauled Green Bay twice last season. Their Week 12 victory was a crushing 37-8 final tally. Meanwhile, the Packers fought back from 34-7 to lose 37-20 in the Championship game. They want revenge.

19. Las Vegas Raiders vs. New Orleans Saints – Week 2:

The NFL’s newest city finally gets to host its first game in Week 2. The glamor and glitz are going to be off the chart in “Sin City.” However, Sean Payton and Drew Brees will want to spoil their housewarming party. This will be a massive test right from the start for ‘The Silver and Black.’

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

Meanwhile, the Raiders have questions to answer about their quarterback situation. Derek Carr is going to have to live with being in the spotlight. He has a baptism of fire as a starter with games against the Patriots, the Bills, and the Chiefs in succession. The pressure is already mounting for him to keep winning games or potentially lose his job.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

18. Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs – Week 6:

Buffalo coaches Sean McDermott and Leslie Frazier operated one of the meanest defenses in the entire NFL last year. It’s going to be exciting to watch them take on one of the best aerial attacks in the Chiefs. But the Bills did lose their leader Jordan Philips to Cardinals and Shaq Lawson to the Dolphins, so how they sync without them will be key.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

Coming in Week 6, this game is at the perfect time for both sides to get into their groove. How will Mahomes cope against a stubborn guard like the Bills? With the electric Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce by his side, this one could be a scintillating match-up. Buffalo has also upped their offense with the addition of former Vikings wideout Stefon Diggs.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

17. New Orleans Saints vs. Minnesota Vikings – Week 16:

A very rare Christmas Day game, this is also a very intriguing match-up. The Vikings have stunned the Saints twice in playoff games in the past three seasons. They’ll be full of confidence as they go up against one of the Super Bowl favorite Saints. Meanwhile, the Saints will be desperate for revenge.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

Stefon Diggs isn’t there anymore to pull off another ‘Minnesota Miracle.’ But they’re going to be interesting to watch, especially after breaking the record for draft picks by one team in 2020 (15). This is also going to be a defining season for Kirk Cousins. They pay him like an elite QB, and now he has to play like one.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

16. Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cleveland Browns – Week 6:

This could be another feisty affair. Myles Garrett will make his first return to Pittsburgh since the madness of last season. That was where he ripped the helmet off of Steelers’ quarterback Mason Rudolph before hitting him over the head with it. The NFL suspended him for six games, the remainder of the season.

Mandatory Credit: Sports Illustrated

He’s going to get a very hostile reception. This could play into the Steelers’ hands. If they can rattle Garrett’s cage again, it could send a ripple through the entire Browns team. Get your popcorn ready because these two foes don’t like each other at all.

15. New England Patriots vs. Baltimore Ravens – Week 10:

Who would want to be in Jarrett Stidham’s shoes right now? He’s in the unenviable position of having to replace the iconic Tom Brady at Gilette Stadium. Whether he likes it or not, every Pats fan is going to be watching every move he makes. In short, he has to live with the fact that the rest of the league wants to watch him fail.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

Going up against Lamar Jackson could cast the spotlight on what the Patriots are missing unless Stidham proves his doubters wrong. The Patriots had a tough defense last year but lost several of the pieces that made them so good on that side of the ball. The Ravens crushed the Patriots 37-20 in Baltimore last year but are 0-5 against their East Coast rivals on the road. To sum up, this will be an intriguing battle.

14. Dallas Cowboys vs. Pittsburgh Steelers – Week 9:

If you’re a fan of NFL history, this is a game you need to watch. The Cowboys and the Steelers are two of the most historic franchises out there. This is a classic battle between two very successful Super Bowl-winning sides with feverish fanbases.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

The Cowboys will host this one at AT&T Stadium. They’ll be confident of beating the Steelers after winning seven of the last 10 games between these two classic squads. Meanwhile, ‘America’s Team’ is also trying to convince everybody they can make a playoff run nd win more than eight games this year. We’ll see.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

13. Baltimore Ravens vs. Dallas Cowboys –

This is a great game for the Ravens but not because of anything on the field. Believe it or not, but they’ve only played the Cowboys on six previous occasions. Now they’ll welcome ‘America’s Team’ to their M&T Bank Stadium, which should provide big ratings. Furthermore, they’ll be looking to improve their record in games against Dallas to 5-1.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

The Ravens offense was phenomenal last year. Will it be too hot for the Cowboys to handle? They’ll have a new-look defense after losing key players to free agency. One thing is for sure, there are going to be fireworks either way. This is a great clash between a classic franchise and one of the NFL’s most talented young upstarts.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

12. New England Patriots vs. San Francisco 49ers – Week 7:

This game is suddenly more interesting because Tom Brady is out of the equation. However, his shadow is still looming large. Remember when the Patriots traded Jimmy Garoppolo to San Francisco? There’s a very good chance that decision will come back to haunt them when the NFC West Champions come to town in Week 7 of 2020.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

All of a sudden, the Patriots might wish they hung onto him. After losing the Super Bowl last time around, the 49ers will be hurting. It’s down to Garoppolo to prove why the Patriots were wrong to trade him. There likely aren’t many more games he’ll be more pumped up for than this one.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

11. Dallas Cowboys vs. Arizona Cardinals – Week 6:

This has the potential to be an outrageous firefight between two of the most electrifying offenses in the NFL today. Just think about Kyler Murray vs. Dak Prescott and Kliff Kingsbury vs. Mike McCarthy. Then add the likes of DeAndre Hopkins, Amari Cooper, and CeeDee Lamb into the equation and you’ve got yourself a likely offensive explosion.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

In short, this could an incredible game of football. Set to go down in Week 6, the Cardinals have a tough task. This will be their third game in a row on the road. Can they handle the fatigue and throw down the gauntlet in Texas? They’re a team on the rise, however, they’ve got everything to prove after being an offseason darling by adding Hopkins and drafting Isaiah Simmons.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

10. Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens – Week

It’s always fun when a college rivalry seeps into the NFL. Lamar Jackson and Deshaun Watson are old foes since their days at Louisville and Clemson, respectively. Watson had the better team success in college with a national title while Jackson had better individual accolades including the Heisman Trophy.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

Last time around, the Ravens won 41-7. When they play on September 20 in Houston, it should be a lot closer. A big payday is on the horizon for Watson. He’ll be motivated to prove that he’s as valuable to the Texans as Jackson is to the Ravens. But that’s a lot to ask after the Texans traded away their best weapon Deandre Hopkins, which will undoubtedly lose them a couple games.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

9. New Orleans Saints vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Week 1:

All eyes will be on the Louisiana Superdome in Week One when Tom Brady makes his debut with the Buccaneers. It’s the first time in 20 years that he’ll wear a uniform that’s not Patriot blue. The downtrodden Bucs will hope that the Patriots’ loss will be their gain and he leads them to the playoffs.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

He’ll face off against fellow legendary veteran quarterback Drew Brees. This is a massive season for Brees too. After three consecutive playoff defeats, he’ll be desperate to add to his single Super Bowl appearance. In sum, this is high stakes from the very start for both franchises. It may be opening week, yet this is still one of the most important games of the season for both teams.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

8. Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots – Week 8:

The Bills are hoping to complete their full resurgence in 2020. With the Patriots in transition after so many high-profile departures, this is arguably their best chance to get one over their fierce rivals. Buffalo has lost seven straight games to the Patriots and hasn’t won against them since 2011.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

That’s a very long time as the Bills Mafia know. If Josh Allen is going to lead them to an AFC East Division title, the time is now. They’re not going to get a better opportunity than this season so they need to take full advantage. It’s time to put all of that hurt behind them.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

7. Kansas City Chiefs vs. Baltimore Ravens – Week 3:

Expect the entire NFL fanbase to watch this one in Week 3. The Ravens will host the Chiefs on a Monday night in one of the most exciting and fascinating match-ups of the season. With both teams having title aspirations, we’re going to learn a lot early in the season.

Mandatory Credit: Sports Illustrated

Meanwhile, the two best quarterbacks in the league will go up against each other. Last year’s NFL MVP Lamar Jackson will look to remind Patrick Mahomes just why he won that accolade. Equally, Mahomes will want to build on his Super Bowl MVP and lead the Chiefs back to another championship. In short, it’s a ton to play for in Week 3.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

6. San Francisco 49ers vs. New Orleans Saints – Week 10:

Coming in the middle of the season, this game will be a fascinating barometer of where these two teams really are. They’ve both strengthened in the off-season and look to be contenders this time around. They’ll be looking to derail each other’s campaigns in Week 10.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

Last time they met, the 49ers edged out the Saints 48-46. On paper, they look close again, but the Saints will be desperate for revenge. It could be a defining moment in this year’s race for the NCA title and Super Bowl. Will one of these two teams be walking out in Tampa next February?

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Green Bay Packers – Week 6:

Yet another tale of two quarterbacks, this promises to be a very compelling match-up. While the Bucs look like they’re in a far better position than the Packers this year, it’s still going to be fascinating to watch them go at each other. Tom Brady has only played against Aaron Rodgers in three previous games.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

Brady has played on far better teams than Rodgers and obviously has more silverware to his name. However, the stats show that Rodgers is more accurate than his counterpart and has a better arm. Rodgers will look to prove he’s also one of the greatest QBs in the history of the game. when he faces Brady and his new squad

4. Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers – Week 12:

Thanksgiving will end with a bang as these two rivals go head to head in Week 12. You might find your Thanksgiving dinner digests a bit quicker than usual when this game kicks off. This wintry clash fills the third slot. Every Ravens/Steelers game is a feisty affair and this year promises to be no exception.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

They’ll be motivated to put on a show in front of a massive TV audience so expect thrills and drama. This division clash could help shape the standings of the AFC North division. That’s only going to be true if Steeler Ben Roethlisberger is back to full health this year, however. Even if he is, it will still be difficult to match scores with 2019 MVP Lamar Jackson. It’ll also be an exciting time to be an NFL fan.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

3. Dallas Cowboys vs. San Francisco 49ers – Week 15:

For the first time in a long time, both of these teams have Super Bowl aspirations. The Cowboys had a phenomenal draft and will be hoping to make a major splash this season. Their offense will go toe-to-toe with anybody in the league. But will it be enough to beat last year’s NFC Champions?

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

The 49ers look even stronger with the addition of Trent Williams. One of the best left tackles in the NFL today, will he make the difference between these two teams? In sum, this Week 15 clash will see the resumption of one of the best non-divisional rivalries in the sport. The chances are also very high that it will be a defining game.

Mandatory Credit: New Orleans Saints

2. Kansas City Chiefs vs. New Orleans Saints – Week 15:

Some are calling this a Super Bowl preview, and it really could be. Going down in Week 15, this is going to be a raucous affair. The fact that it’s indoors should only add to the drama and turn it into a real firefight. There are exciting match-ups all over the field, yet Mahomes vs. Brees is obviously the one everyone will be fixated on.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

The Chiefs won’t want to lose their grip on the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Many analysts consider the Saints favorites to win the NFC this year. Can New Orleans stop the K.C. juggernaut? Will the Chiefs be able to stop Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas from implementing their game? On paper, this is one of the most competitive regular-season games of the year.

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

1. Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Week 12:

This storyline has it all. On an individual level, Tom Brady takes on Patrick Mahomes in a battle of past versus present. Does Brady have it in him to put on one more brilliant performance? Or will the young sensation Mahomes make him look every one of his 43 years?

Mandatory Credit: USA TODAY Sports

Meanwhile, this Week 12 clash will also reveal a lot about both teams. First of all, we’ll know if they’re both genuine competitors for the Super Bowl this year, with the Buccaneers running as popular preseason choices. Rob Gronowski will be just as important to the Bucs as he was in New England after leaving the Patriots too. But he needs to stay healthy. On the other hand, the Buccaneers defense will have their hands incredibly full with Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, and new running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
