You could also question Kaepernick’s hunger to return after so long out of action. After two years off the field, it could be tough to make the transition back to a team game. Does he really want to go back and risk getting concussions and injuries? Furthermore, is he going to be sharp enough after that length of time? It’s would genuinely be a gamble to have him come back, even if he looked good during his open workout.

That open workout was just about keeping up appearances. The way the NFL handled it showed what they think about it. They’re trying to phase him out of the sport, while he’s just reigniting the argument that they’re out to get him. Of course, they are, but the longer he’s out of action, the more you can justify not signing him.
