Elite athletes can be an emotional bunch. They understandably hold themselves to incredibly high standards and hate when things don’t go their way. Sometimes they lash out in fits of rage when they make a mistake or lose a game. But this can lead to ridiculous injuries fueled by this rage, like when Devin Williams broke his hand in 2021 and missed the entire MLB postseason.
A lot of athletes have injured themselves in ridiculous fits of rage. Some of these were because of events on the playing field. But all of these incidents were stupid, avoidable, and entertaining. Check out the list below via Bleacher Report.
25. Bryce Harper
There are several baseball players on this list but Harper suffered one of the most ridiculous injuries. The Nationals met the Reds and claimed a 7-3 victory. But Harper didn’t play well and felt frustrated by his performance. His reaction was to swing his bat in anger against the wall as he walked down the tunnel. Yet it bounced off the hard surface and rebounded against his head.
The next time his teammates saw him, Harper had a golf ball-sized swelling on his head and blood-matted hair. After going 0-for-5 with three strikeouts, Harper’s anger was understandable. It wasn’t as stupid as punching a wall with his bare hand as many athletes have done. “I guess I won’t do it anymore, but I don’t know,” Harper told the Washington Post. “I’ve done it a million times. It’s just a heat-of-the-moment kind of thing.”
