Quebec Nordiques
There are few things worse than stripping a city of its sports teams. Montreal understands this better than most places because it lost several beloved franchises. One of these was their NHL team, the Nordiques. Incredibly, the team began in San Francisco before it moved to the cold North (via The Hockey Writers).

They became an institution in Quebec City and came close to Stanley Cup contention. But a cruel fate awaited them because of their small market. Finally, the franchise evolved into the Colorado Avalanche and left its old name behind. Team owners have no moral compass when it comes to milking fans out of their cash.
