Harding was America’s golden girl of figure skating before everything went horribly wrong. The ice queen became embroiled in an unpleasant scandal that also involved her husband. He had her rival, Nancy Kerrigan, assaulted, but Harding knew he was planning something. This ended her skating career and she turned to other means to earn money.

She began professional boxing but these were effectively freak shows because of her fame. In the end, she retired with a record of 3-3 and her asthma prevented her from continuing. It was an ignominious end to her sporting life because she offered so much as an athlete (via Radio France).

Wiese enjoyed a successful career as a goalkeeper in Germany’s Bundesliga. The soccer star represented his country multiple times and made almost 200 appearances for Werder Bremen. But he made headlines after his retirement because of his new sporting pursuit.

Most soccer players enjoy playing a few rounds of golf when their playing days end. However, Wiese entered the world of professional wrestling and even performed in the WWE. Most people agree that these were freak shows but he deserves respect for doing what he loves (via Give Me Sport).

The pair strapped on their gloves and went head-to-head in the bout. Malignaggi knew he had physical shortcomings as a boxer but he made up for them with his work rate and skill. This won him IBF and WBA titles as well as a lot of money. Then UFC superstar Conor McGregor hired him as part of his training camp for the Floyd Mayweather fight. But leaked footage of a knockdown infuriated Malignaggi (via TalkSport).

McGregor never offered him an official fight but it wasn’t over. Malignaggi agreed to fight McGregor’s training partner, Artem Lobov, in a bare-knuckle boxing match. These freak show events were above Malignaggi as a former champion but he didn’t care. Unfortunately, he lost to Lobov and his pride suffered.

Johnnie Morton

Detroit has been through some tough times recently but they remember Morton with fondness. The wideout put in some good performances for the franchise and helped them to a postseason appearance in 1999. Morton also competed in some freak shows with a notable MMA fight against Bernard Ackah.
