Alexei Yashin
Yashin was a top NHL player but his team infuriated him. We’re talking about the Ottawa Senators who failed to offer him the terms that he wanted. This caused him to sit out for a season in a career-defining decision. In the end, the Senators sued him because they claimed that he failed to fulfill the terms of his contract.
A court of arbitration agreed and forced him to play for one more season in Canada. Finally, he escaped and moved to the New York Islanders. But it was a nasty contract dispute and one of the most notorious in the history of professional sports. This shadow hung over Yashin for a long time (via The Hockey News).
