Carr scored a five-year, $125 million extension with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2017. He will make about $20 million this year in the lucrative deal. The Raiders’ quarterback is now at the midpoint of his contract but knows the stakes are high this season.

The year is beyond important because the Mahomes’ deal has changed the playing field for elite QBs. If Carr can develop more consistency and prove how good he is, he will be in a position to demand more money and again make one of the highest salaries in the NFL. The ball is in his court.
