The Dallas Cowboys have a recent history of shoddy decisions, but making Lawrence the highest-paid defensive end in the league in 2019 wasn’t one of them. It was a smart move from the franchise because of his quality and the necessity to provide consistency for ‘America’s Team.’ So many teams overload their cap with offensive players when a more pragmatic approach is required.

Lawrence signed a five-year, $105 million extension that will see him set up shop in Texas until at least 2024. However, unless the Cowboys improve drastically he will only see a guaranteed $64 million. Still, his bank account will explode by almost $17 million per year thanks to one of the spiciest guaranteed salaries in the sport. Meanwhile, the two-time Pro Bowler must show that he’s worth the investment.
