19. Ron Artest/Metta World Peace (Drafted 18th Overall in 1999)
While going 18th overall isn’t a bad spot for most, the 1999 draft is filled with busts in the first round. Artest was someone that could get it done offensively but he truly stood out as a defender throughout his career. From 2000 to 20008, he averaged 2 or more steals a game, in fact.
Eventually, Ron became the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2004. He has landed on the NBA All-Defensive Second Team & All-Defensive First Team twice each. Artest has also been an NBA All-Star and helped the LA Lakers win an NBA Championship in 2010.
