Maine Man

The Colts ran one of the worst trick plays in the history

of mankind in 2015. Instantly, the whole world trolled them because it was such a ridiculous situation. Officials cited the team for an illegal formation after the attempt against the New England Patriots (via Bleacher Report).

Then college teams including Maine went after the Colts. They showed their successful

trick play against James Madison as they won in the dying moments. It was a brilliant victory and expert trolling from Maine, even though most of their players will never make it to the NFL.

Do You Like Apples?

Nothing quite beats an in-state rivalry between two college teams. The Washington Huskies

and Washington State Cougars maintain a healthy yet contentious bond. They hate each other but they also give each other a sense of purpose. The Cougars beat the Huskies for the first time in a decade to win the Apple Cup in 2021.

Then they instantly trolled their foes on Twitter with a famous scene from

‘Good Will Hunting.’ This infuriated the Huskies fanbase who were quick to remind the Cougars that this was an anomaly. But it’s important to take a win when there is one and they didn’t miss a beat (via Saturday Down South).

Say Hi

The Jacksonville Jaguars are a terrible franchise and few people care about them.

They’ve been garbage for many seasons but they still have a sense of humor. Indianapolis suffered the indignity of losing against the Jags in the final week of the 2021 season. This also cost them a place in the postseason as Carson Wentz imploded.

Now Wentz plays for Washington and will meet the Jags in week one.

Jacksonville trolled him hard by tweeting: “Tell Carson we said hi.” It was ruthless and ironic because their team was terrible. They wanted to reopen the trauma of losing to the NFL’s worst team (via BroBible).

Don’t Copy Us

The Jaguars haven’t been in a position to troll anybody over the past

couple of seasons. They were the worst-performing NFL franchise for two straight years. This is despite drafting the highly rated Trevor Lawrence in 2021. However, the Falcons rubbed them the wrong way (via CBS Sports).

Jacksonville released a statement to their fans as they apologized for their early

losing record. Then Atlanta did a very similar one that the Jags reposted with the following caption. They wrote: “Hey can I copy your homework?” “Yeah, fam just switch it up a bit.” Who know that garbage play was so contentious?

Free of Charge

The Anaheim Ducks found themselves in an unfortunate situation. In short, they were

vulnerable to losing a star player for nothing but there wasn’t a lot of sympathy for them. The Golden Knights trolled them savagely on Twitter with a cruel message (via Hockey Feed).

They wrote: “So Anaheim Ducks. 7 forwards and 3 defensemen or 8 skaters?

We’re asking for a friend.” Las Vegas fans thought that this was the most hilarious thing that had ever happened. Needless to say, their Anaheim rival didn’t appreciate the joke at their expense.

Beautiful Day

The Knicks have a great history but they also have a terrible recent

record. They regularly break the hearts of their fans and make it easy for rival teams to troll them. The Pacers added their names to the list after they defeated the New York franchise in 2021. First, they tweeted ‘Bing Bong’ before a follow-up message.

“It’s a beautiful day to beat the Knicks,” they tweeted gleefully as they

teased their rivals. However, some fans said that it was petty because they acted like it was the highlight of their season. Nonetheless, it got into the Knicks’ heads and infuriated them (via New York Post).

Don’t Look Back

There are times when teams trolled their rivals but it didn’t end well.

The Jets are a great example because they thought that they get one over their cross-city foes, the Giants. In truth, Gang Green has insecurity when it comes to the Giants because the latter has much more success.

Big Blue used the second-overall pick to select Saquon Barkley in 2018. Then

the Jets immediately chose Sam Darnold as their franchise quarterback. He flamed out after three horrible seasons. But the Jets wrote: “Thank you @Giants” in a tweet that aged very badly (via USA Today).

The Master Awakes

Conor McGregor is a brilliant MMA fighter and an elite trash-talker. But

there’s always a bigger fish in the sea as he discovered when he messed with Jake Paul. Paul is a famous YouTuber who recently moved into the world of boxing. He fought several MMA fighters including former UFC champion Tyron Woodley.

McGregor wrote: “If you want a knock off me step up and

say your piece. I’m still picking who.” Then, Paul responded and trolled him with the image above. He didn’t write a caption but he posted a picture of the Irishman in an unflattering light. Don’t play with the master because it won’t end well.

Pirates or Trolls?

The Pittsburgh Pirates are one of the worst franchises in baseball. But nobody

can accuse them of lacking self-awareness because they know they’re bad. They have barely any money and struggle to compete against the top teams. Yet they inexplicably demolished the Dodgers across a three-game series.

They swept their NL Central rivals as they had five or more href="https://sportscroll.com/ranking-every-member-of-mlbs-historic-500-home-run-club/">home runs in each game. Then their social media team ran amok and trolled the Dodgers. They produced a phenomenal video that mocked their opponents who said that “bad teams always find ways to lose.”

Hartford Reborn

New York City rubbed their local rivals, the Red Bulls, up the wrong

way in 2017. They play most of their home games in Yankees Stadium but a scheduling conflict changed everything. They forced the Red Bulls to come to a ‘home game’ in Hartford, Connecticut. But their fellow New York franchise trolled them mercilessly (via ESPN).

They brought an NHL icon into play as they revived the Hartford

Whalers. They dragged the Whalers’ old mascot out of bed and played the franchise’s music before the game. Furthermore, they used a visual display to advise fans about all the stadiums that were closer to New York than Hartford’s.

Looney Tunes

Red Star Belgrade is a Serbian soccer club with a terrible reputation. UEFA

cited their fans on multiple occasions for hooliganism and bad behavior. However, they’ve also made people smile on occasion. They hosted their rivals Vojvodina and brilliantly trolled them.

The Vojvodina supporters attempted to chant and make their voices heard. But Red

Star had a response for them as they drowned them out with the Looney Tunes theme tune. They placed a speaker beside the away fans’ section and put it on full blast with hilarious results (via Twitter).

NFL on Fox’s Revenge

We saw earlier how the Detroit Lions trolled NFL on Fox after their

analysts picked the Saints. However, the network had the last laugh when Detroit lost against the Cleveland Browns. This guaranteed the franchise their fourth consecutive losing season (via Detroit Sports Nation).

However, the network didn’t show much sympathy as they went after the franchise.

They put out a hilarious but completely unnecessary tweet. They emphatically reminded the world that the Lions are garbage. There wasn’t much their fans could do because it’s true.

Team Khabib

Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of the greatest UFC fighters ever. He retired

with an unblemished 29-0 record after beating some of the best in the world. The Russian is also a devout Muslim and strictly observes his faith. He doesn’t believe that women should fight and has spoken out against ring girls.

His rival Conor McGregor regularly trolled him on Twitter. The Irishman shared the

gif above from The Simpsons because he wanted to mock his foe. It’s pushing the boundaries of acceptance but that’s typical of ‘The Notorious.’ Some people think he went too far but McGregor didn’t care (via The Sun).

Astros Asterisk

The Houston Astros became one of the most hated franchises on the planet

after they cheated their way to World Series victory. Many people felt that MLB didn’t punish them enough and should have stripped them of their prize. There’s no denying that there’s an asterisk beside their wins after the sign-stealing scandal.

However, MLB inadvertently trolled Houston with their hat design for the All-Star game.

They added a star beside the team’s badge and made the asterisk real. Rival fans thought that this was hilarious because it reflected what everybody was thinking (via Fansided).

Mall Cop

Later we will see that the Saints and the Falcons use every opportunity

to take shots at each other. In this case, Atlanta instigated chaos when they trolled Sean Payton on Twitter. This came after the news broke that Netflix planned a film around his story (via Fansided).

Payton coached his son’s football team while he served an NFL suspension.

But the Falcons immediately tweeted a photoshopped image of Payton as Paul Blart’s Mall Cop. They wrote the caption: “Sounds fun” as they began a Twitter war with their rival franchise.

The Goal Of The Day

Celtic and Rangers hate each more than the longest-married couple. The Glasgow soccer

teams enjoy trolling each other more than winning on the field. Celtic fans let off fireworks when Rangers lost their Europa League final in 2022 against Frankfurt (via Glasgow Times).

However, Rangers have a history of sneering at Celtic too. FC Mytilland knocked

Celtic out of the Champion’s League in 2021. Then, Rangers announced their goal of the day on Twitter. It saw their striker Scott Arfield score against the Danish team the previous year.

The Patriots have one of the creepiest in the NFL and he

occasionally makes the headlines. Jamal Adams infamously sent the man beneath the suit to hospital after he tackled him. But Buffalo fans enjoyed this because the Pats used their mascot to troll them.

In 2021, the Patriots rebounded and crept ahead of the Bills in the

AFC East. They crushed the Falcons in a bruising shutout the day before Buffalo played the Colts. Then as the Bills were losing, they released a clip of their mascot eating popcorn with his feet up (via USA Today Sports).

Criminal Investigation

It’s bad news for a baseball franchise when the city police troll them

on social media. The St. Louis Cardinals experienced this indignity when they traveled to Cincinnati. The Reds smashed them across the series and Jesse Winker played brilliantly (via Sportscasting).

They tweeted: “At the current time, we can neither confirm nor deny that

authorities in St. Louis have asked us to investigate where the Reds obtained the giant broom they used to SWEEP the Cardinals. We however can confirm that Jesse Winker is a suspect!! Go Reds!!!”

Too Dry

Jurgen Klopp is one of the best soccer managers on the planet but

he’s a terrible loser. Liverpool drew their opening game of the 2022 campaign against Fulham. Then the German coach complained about the London team pitch and claimed that it was too dry.

Fulham responded with a brilliant tweet on their official account. They shared this

Opposition teams love sneering at the Lakers because they throw money around and

think they’re better than everybody. Often the latter part is true, but their rivals enjoy it when they have a bad moment. The Sacramento Kings brilliantly trolled Russell Westbrook in one game.

When he missed a shot, they played “Cold as Ice” to the enjoyment

of viewers around the world. Then at the end of the game, they awarded him “The Ice Cold Player of the Game.” However, the NBA clamped down on their antics and banned them from continuing this (via Twitter).

Jake Paul brutally knocked out Tyron Woodley in their rematch. The former UFC

champion fought the YouTube star on two weeks’ notice but paid the price. Fans noticed a detail on his walkout uniform as he trolled his rival, Tommy Fury. The British boxer pulled out of his match against Paul on short notice.

He wore a Union Jack flag with a note for his desired opponent

Marching Band Wars

Ohio State and Michigan troll each other in one of the most brilliant

ways possible. Their marching bands put on the most incredible half-time performances. One Michigan showing saw them create a synchronized display where they played beer pong using an OSU badge as the ball.

But their rivals answered in style as they created a remarkable garbage can

sequence. Oscar the Grouch emerged from the trashcan and swallowed the Wolverines’ badge.  This is a unique way for the college teams to display their rivalry healthily and creatively (via Sports Illustrated).

Wheels On The Bus

NFL rivalries are intense because teams don’t forget when their opponents wrong

them. The Raiders antagonized the Chiefs after a victory in 2020 at Arrowhead Stadium. Then they drove their team buses in a convoy around the venue, making it clear that they owned the town now (via CBS Sports).

This hurt Kansas City and they took revenge the following season in a

48-9 blowout. Then they humiliated the Raiders by playing, “the wheels on the bus go round and round” on repeat. It was a subtle and entertaining jibe as they sent the Raiders home with their tails between their legs.

Soccer fans must receive permission from stadiums to bring banners. That’s because

some material may be offensive and incite a dangerous situation. These Swiss supporters trolled Italy when they played them in a game. That’s because Switzerland qualified for the World Cup but Italy didn’t.

Italy is the most successful side in the world alongside Brazil. The neighboring

countries maintain a strong rivalry when it comes to sports. Usually, Italy is the stronger of the two so Switzerland takes full advantage of these types of opportunities (via Live Soccer TV).

The Arizona Sun Devils and their rivals, the Arizona Wildcats contest the Territorial

Cup every year. These teams don’t like each other and take every opportunity to put each other down. The Wildcats recently released a video that encouraged a fast-paced game as they reacted to NCAA efforts to slow the sport down.

Fans always love when their team releases a new uniform. These days

franchises put a lot of effort into promotional materials because they want to sell as much merchandise as possible. However, the Atlanta Falcons didn’t expect this reaction from the Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers trolled their rivals by posting a follow-up clip after the Falcons

unveiled their new uniforms. They compared them to the Mean Machine uniforms in the Adam Sandler’s movie, ‘The Longest Yard.’ Some people may like this but the Panthers used it as an opportunity to mock their opposition (via Twitter).

The Chargers have one of the most dynamic young quarterbacks in the league,

Justin Herbert. They also have some of the best uniforms. Now they can say that they have a top social media marketing team because of this brilliant troll job. They went down a different and more creative route as they revealed their schedule.

This time they used an anime video to put down their rivals in

a clever promotion. It drew from popular shows like Demon Slayer and One Piece. Even neutral fans agreed that this was a great idea and it won plaudits from animation studios (via CBR).

Flying Benches

Imagine flying a team’s benches halfway across a subcontinent to infuriate a rival.

That’s exactly what the Cowboys did to the Commanders in 2021. They loaded up six benches and brought them to the FedEx Stadium as they trolled Washington. There was nothing that the home team could do about it either.

Some people described this as reprehensible and that the Cowboys are a joke

Celtic and Rangers hate each other more than most rivals because of sectarian

differences. They take every opportunity to poke fun at each other and to put the other down. In 2022 there was controversy because they agreed to play a friendly in Australia. In the end, Rangers withdrew because their fans protested.

Perhaps it wasn’t the classiest response to their win but they couldn’t help

themselves. They uploaded the iconic Simpsons clip as we can see above. However, the Aces shouldn’t act too big for their boots because they’re prone to a mishap. They once forgot their hats and had to borrow their opponents during the game.

Empty Trophy Cabinet

Arsenal and Spurs are two of the Premier League’s biggest rivals. The North-London

teams maintain massive support but the former is more successful. It’s always a big occasion when they clash because these clubs hate each other so much. But they aim at each other off the playing field too (via Caught Offside).

Go onto Arsenal’s online store but don’t select anything. Then open the empty

card and read the following message. It says: “your basket is as empty as Tottenham’s trophy cabinet.” They trolled their enemies in a brutal and petty fashion. The site’s administrator deserves a raise because this is brilliant.

Aaron Rodgers broke his collarbone after a savage Anthony Barr collision in

2013. The linebacker shattered the quarterback in a controversial clash that enraged Packers fans. But the Vikings enjoyed the moment and like to bring it up from time to time. Perhaps they shouldn’t celebrate it but they don’t care.

Barr departed Wisconsin for the Cowboys in 2022 and the Vikings thanked him

The Lakers are one of the biggest NBA franchises today but they court

a lot of drama. Meanwhile, they have a bit of a superiority complex over other teams. But this makes it easy for rival fans and franchises to hate them. The Pelicans trolled them brilliantly in July 2022 (via Fansided).

A Lakers fan page mocked the Pelicans because their official Twitter account’s profile

was a selfie of their players. Then the Pelicans responded with a brutal putdown as they said that at least their athletes like each other. It was an intense dig and one that reverberated around the league.

It’s not easy to be a Russian soccer team in 2022 because they

Southampton also trolled their foes on social media. Portsmouth announced that Bazunu was

their player of the year and Southampton left an emoji in response (via Daily Mirror). It was subtle but extremely petty and fans love that type of thing. In the end, it was a step up for the young Irishman.

Spot the Difference

The Browns and the Bengals are the two biggest sports franchises in Ohio.

The pair have endured mixed fortunes over the past few decades but Cincinnati is on the rise. However, they woke up their state rivals when they posted a side-by-side image of their helmet update (via ESPN).

But the difference was minimal because they barely changed the shade of orange.

Then Cleveland trolled the Bengals with a similar ‘update’ of their symphony orchestra’s logo. They fired shots but did so in a hilarious manner that ripped Cincinnati to shreds.

Mexican soccer fans are some of the most passionate on the planet. They

The Mexico City team aimed at their Guadalajara rivals with a funny promotional

DeShaun Watson is one of the most polarizing NFL players on the planet.

The alleged sexual abuser plays for the Cleveland Browns and is a brilliant quarterback. Some people overlook the former because of his talents. However, opposition fans make their feelings known when their team plays the Browns.

Jacksonville’s supporters trolled the QB when they met in a preseason game. They

chanted: “You sick f***” repeatedly as they got into his head. We’ve tried to keep fans off this list but they spoke what everybody was thinking. Meanwhile, the stadium didn’t try to stop them either (via BroBible).

Missed Kick

NFL teams love to troll each other especially when they have a rivalry.

New York and Washington are two of the biggest franchises on the east coast and their relationship reflects this. In 2021 the Giants threw the game away against Washington after a shocking penalty execution.
