Rio Ferdinand
Ferdinand was one of the best defenders of his generation. But he wasn’t a stranger to controversy as an incident in 2003 proved. There aren’t many drug test scandals in soccer but Ferdinand was at the center of one. He missed a test and the league banned him for half a season.

The English athlete resented accusations of steroid abuse but he brought it on himself. It’s relatively simple not to miss a test but he wasn’t present. Finally, he returned to the field but there were a lot of eyes on him for the rest of the season. That’s what happens to a seedy superstar when they play again (via The Guardian).
